Phase Velocity Halaka/Simon Waldram Split Cassette

Limited edition split cassette from the brand spankin' new Phase Velocity label. For their first release they've chosen split cassette from American experimental cult of nobody band, Halaka, and British singer/song writer Simon Waldram. Swalaka is limited to just 30 copies, and I think there are only 18 left. Each side is around 40 minutes. Halaka's side, titled Terminal Inside, plays as sort of a single piece, while Waldram's side is broken into traditional song segments. You can buy the tape here: http://phasevelocity.bandcamp.com.

Once these are gone there probably won't be anymore. Cassette is currently the only format this music is available in. No digital downloads have surfaced, but some excerpts have been posted over at soundcloud by Phase Velocity.

Simon Waldram: Revolt! an experimental sorta of punk ditty that turns a bit progressive towards the middle. The fuzzy production might cross into shoegaze territory, but without the whole wall of sound.

These tapes were made  by hand and feature liner notes from Halaka's man of mystery, Kingo Sleemer.

Yesterday I stumbled on the music of Cool Timmy or Timothy Wizard who seems to have a number of releases under different names. Deathwish & Dead Bells falls under the messedupcoyote banner and it's fucking awesome. Noisy, loud guitars, punk rock, video game melodies. This guy does all this stuff by himself at home. I might like this record more than than the Cool Timmy album I posted yesterday. Again it's a PWYW release so go grab this and crank the hell out of it.

The Christmas Lights

These guys are from right near where the drawer exists. Right near. They've got a little two song single you can get from Noisetrade for free. They also have a relatively newish album out that you can get for $8 on bandcamp or  stream for free.

Hermetic Tapes

The idea behind Hermetic Tapes is to record live improvisations straight to a tape deck. They claim or they do not claim to be part of The Church of The Infinite Space Ritual, which is most certainly some sort of cover for a secret government experiment. Maybe. Anyway, I get the feeling that this is a collective of individuals more than it is a band or bands. Currently there are 8 releases available at http://hermetictapes.bandcamp.com/.

All of the releases will cost you something. One assumes there is a website out there where you can order actual copies of the tapes from these guys.

My family and I just had ice cream. There's a milk shake with a chocolate chip cookie in it. I had that. I'm posting this on Sunday but it won't be up until later. When? Whenever it is. Maybe it won't be so hot then.

radio scotvoid - fragment (consider revising)

I took a jumbled-up crumple up through a partition of archive.org, our home inside the home or part shoot, part ladder, digging for Neil Carlill, something I could share on here. I've been days of buried in 2010's Me Me the Moth album. Will write more on that later.

In the meantime, I found this thing called radio scotvoid - framgment (consider revising), some sort of EP. There's a track that contains some piece of Neil singing. So I started listening and there's some interesting stuff here.

Here's how you get there:

This seems to be primarily instrumental, glitchy oddness. I enjoy it more when there are vocals, like on the track Tooth and Claw (Wineglass Mix).

Worth hearing, and if you like it I see there appear to be many more releases from radio scotvoid on archive linked from the page I linked.

Chicanery: a Mystery

For some reason, and I have no idea what that reason is, it took me a while to track down the eponymous release by Chicanery. I think it's well worth tracking down, but I'm not going to be able to tell you how to do it.

Cut me From the Mirror

That song is one of the more accessible tracks on the album, released, I think, in 2011, and apparently quickly removed from circulation. Why? I have no idea. It might have something to do with the strange lights in the sky.

They are obscure enough that I feel fine posting about them here. They are strange and wonderful enough that I would feel remiss if I didn't. What I can't for the life of me figure out is HOW this is obscure. Or maybe it's not as obscure as I think. Having a pedigree like this though -- Warren Cuccurullo (late of Frank Zappa, Missing Persons, Duran Duran) on guitars and tapes and loops and all that kind of good stuff I like to talk about over here, Terry Bozio (also played with Zappa,) Simone Sello, Joe Travers, and Ustad Sultan Khan -- I am not surprised at the quality.

Of course I can't overlook their brilliant and bizarre vocalist/lyricist/multi-instrumentalist Neil Carlill, who, it seems, is also more than happy to communicate with lunatics who contact him out of the blue. Until now I've never listened to anything (that I know of) from him, but that is going to be changing immediately. He's got so much texture in his delivery, his lyrics drip all over the crooked parts of my brain, and he still manages to provide melodic hooks throughout the material. There's some Peter Murphy in these vocals, maybe some David Bowie, and then a big dose of stuff the likes of which I've never really heard before.

The production is awesome. Put some headphones on. Listen for the thing that sounds like a circuit bent speak-n-spell in the song in the video. Brilliant.

Demovangelis - The Duty of 3 in 1

Picked this up from  the artist himself handing them out from a shoebox on the street. Outsider Prog Metal? Maybe. This guy records all his stuff one instrument at a time on a portastudio in his apartment. I think the guitars are real, but everything else sounds like a keyboard or drum machine. The guy has talent, his arrangements are at times complex and crazy. If you're up for a weird adventure with slight biblical overtones (ok, there's more than a slight amount of Jesus is great here) that sort of sounds like what might happen if the guy that writes all the Iron Maiden songs lived alone in an apartment, did a lot of drugs, and recorded everything with keyboard then this is the adventure for you.

I'll try to get the cover and liner notes posted too.

Foraged For, Found, & Forged

This is an album of found sound compositions compiled by Charles Rice Goff III.

"Foraged For, Found, And Forged" was the first solo original CDR production created by Charles Rice Goff III (after creating 22 solo cassette productions and three CDR solo cassette retrospectives). Its title sums up its essence: the compositions were all created by pasting together small bits and pieces of found sounds. In the "forging" process, Goff also used a lot of computer effects to vary his found sounds. His only actual "performances" on this album are a few vocals spread around here and there. "
